A Threepeat Complete

Last night the Fatcats achieved what many beer league teams only dream of, a 3rd straight championship. As with any Fatcat victory, drama was no stranger to this finale where the Cats were pitted against division rivals, the Troglies. Ian Furlong opened the scoring with a hard snapper over the right shoulder of goaltender Ryan Roberts. Troglies answered back over a minute later to tie the score 1-1. Tension grew as the game went on with the score remaining the same through 2nd and 3rd period. So much so that Cameron Carty took a 4 minute retaliatory slashing penalty with 2:49 left in the game. Although the Cats managed to kill off the first penalty the Troglies pushed back and scored with 37 seconds left on the clock. With the net empty and 6 attackers, the Fatcat spirit fought on and thanks to some last second heroics, Ryan Teal scored the tieing goal with 0.9 seconds left on the clock. Overtime saw an epic 3 on 3 battle for Tuesday night supremacy. When it looked as though the final would come down to a shootout, Dan Stark of the Troglies incurred an interference penalty to put the Cats on the power play for the rest of the game. In the dying seconds of the overtime stanza, after a mad scramble, the Cats clinched their third straight championship with a goal by Grant Spence.
